Fall into Art at the Howard Steamboat Musem

2 Nov

The Howard Steamboat Musem kicked off its Fall into Art Program featuring the works of Louisville Artitst  Patty Thumb this Sunday November 1, 2009.   I was there clumsily working the Powerpoint for a lecture by Louisville Art historian and author Estill Curtis (“Buck”) Pennington. The erudite Pennington is always informative and entertaining  and well worth hearing. I missed the reference,  but he gave a quote about the civil war that went something like, “Kentuckians were the only people  to join the losing side after the war was over.”  The exhibit runs through November with different free  programs every Sunday afternoon.   While the wonderful florals and decorative aspects of Thum’s work are lost or wasted on me, her portraits, some of which transcend race and gender,  are remarkable.
